Top 5 Reasons Why People Never Learn to Play Guitar Why They SHOULDN’T Stop You!
I can’t do it. Here’s the cold, hard truth. Literally anybody can learn to play guitar! Take the lessons website ‘Jamorama’ for instance. They have over 200,000 people that have taken their course and learned to play guitar! I can guarantee you that they didn’t have 200,000 naturally gifted experts use their product. All you need is a person to show you what to do and you’ll be off to the races which is why online guitar lessons are so dang effective.
I don’t know anything about music. When it comes to knowing music and playing guitar, you don’t need to know much beyond ‘dang that sounds good!’ and ‘ouch that sounds bad.’ When you play guitar, you don’t even need to know how to read music! You get this sweet cheat sheet called a ‘tab’ that you can learn how to read in less than 20 minutes (I’m not joking) and you’ll have no problem plucking out songs from then on. So cowboy up – the hardest part is getting started and you’re half way there!
I don’t have a guitar. Okay now those of you who really want to play but are being held back because you can’t afford a guitar, that can be a real excuse! Most people think that guitars are expensive and hard to come by, but listen to this – most people pay way too much money for their first guitar. You don’t need a shining weapon of glory crafted by Zeus himself to start playing the guitar (though it would probably help). Here are my solutions to your problem:

A. ASK your friends and family! You would be amazed at how many people started learning at one point and have a guitar collecting dust under their bed!

B. If you have access, visit craigslist.com. Specifically look for a college kid who is selling his guitar for food money/survival…I guarantee he will be interested in a trade for a good stock of french toaster sticks or mac and cheese (you get what I mean, trade them something they want).

C. Go to a pawn shop and pick up an old, ragged piece of junk for $100 or less. Most people can shell out about $75-$100 and if you’re serious about learning, it will be worth it. Even the junkiest guitar will be enough to get you through the basics and last you a while.

I just don’t have the time. Time is a valuable thing, no? Sit down, close your eyes, and ask yourself “do I really want to learn how to play guitar?” Since your answer will most definitely be yes or you wouldn’t be on this site, then all you need to do is carve out a TINY piece of your schedule to make it happen and I’ll tell you why.

In the video above I talk about how online guitar lessons make it far more efficient to learn guitar.
If you are learning more efficiently then you need to spend less time to make progress on the instrument. Really you only need to take 30 minutes of your time each day to make real progress using online guitar lessons and there are only two reasons why you wouldn’t have an extra 30 minutes – 1. You are a super hero and are sworn to protect your city from oncoming hordes of aliens and bad guys. 2. You just gave birth to octuplets. If neither of these apply to you, then you’re ready to get started!

Lessons are too expensive for me. I also break this down in the video above, but here’s a hard copy of the break down. I spent the majority of my beginning stages learning snippets here and there from friends and anybody I could find on YouTube who had their fretting hand in the camera so I could watch what they were doing. While this was effective in the long run, I could have saved myself literally hundreds of hours and thousands of dollars in my time.

Let me put it this way. To learn guitar decently well from YouTube videos and other free online resources took me probably somewhere in the ballpark of 150 hours. Okay that’s a LOT of hours right? And if I value my time at $12/hour, it cost me around $1,800. $1,800 is almost 10 times more than the highest quality online guitar lessons available to you. So with the Jamorama online guitar lessons beginner’s course, for instance, you save yourself $1,760, (or more if you value your time at more than $12/hour) and by the end of just 6 lessons you’ll be jamming away on chords that will allow you to play thousands of songs!
